What Makes My Service Safe?
- I follow Universal Precautions with each and every placenta, which means that I treat each placenta as though it may be infected with a blood borne pathogen or STI
- I disinfect all of my equipment and work surfaces thoroughly before and after each placenta.
- I do not process more than one placenta at a time.
- I know how to handle placentas with meconium and from people who are GBS positive safely.
- I do not have pets in my work space.
- I check the temperature of the placenta in the cooler as well as fresh out of the fridge to be sure it was kept at a proper temperature the entire time before handling.
- I continuously monitor the temperature of my dehydrator while the placenta is dehydrating. All placentas are dehydrated at 160 degrees F to kill any potential bacteria and ensure complete dryness.
- I follow strict food safety guidelines and regularly renew my certification regularly.
- I follow strict OSHA standards and regularly renew my blood borne pathogens certification.
- Every piece of reusable equipment is scrubbed, soaked and sanitized and I use disposable items when possible.
- I change my gloves constantly. I never wash or rinse my gloves and touch something and go back to the placenta.
- Per food safety guidelines, I never wear fake fingernails, as even under gloves-they can harbor bacteria and are not food safe.
- Nothing touches the placenta, except for water and my gloved hands. I do not put herbs, chemicals or food dye on your placenta. Some people prefer to have herbs in their steaming water, but they never touch the placenta.
- I strive to make sure that others offering the service are also following strict safety standards, as I feel that every new parent needs to heal in the best way possible and that risks need to be non-existent.
